A-Z Challenge Reflections

Some thoughts during and after the 2018 A-Z Challenge:

01/ With spread sheets for the daily links, there's just no way to mark if you have visited a blog unless you visit that blog again which is pretty much what I did most of the times. I guess even with a linky list, it's a problem but at least, the visited links are a different color.

02/ The master list have 697 blogs but the daily lists are only half of that so I wonder if people just signed up and not posted or people signed up, posted but never leave their links on the daily list. I didn't visit everyone on the master list and actually, I hardly check the list but I used the daily link lists instead because I know for certain people posted on that list. So what is the point of the master link list again?

03/ I think Post Category is more like format category because it doesn't tell you what the post is about, it tells you what the post fits under. Also, it seems all my posts falls under more than one category and mostly it's under 'other and miscellaneous' or 'prefer not to say/don't know' because there's no 'blogging' category and sometimes I just don't think there is any category to fit in.

04/ What we really need is 'post titles' - most people like me, title their post to mean exactly what the post is about so 'post titles' are useful, well, okay, not all the time maybe but some of the time certainly.

05/ I don't know if wordpress.com users know this but there are ads on all their posts. I think if you're login into Wordpress, you don't see them on your blogs. But I don't mind the ads but why do they keep featuring that awful foot image ad? What the hell is that? I don't even read what's about, I just tried to avoid looking at it.

06/ I don't like the A-Z logo/badge. For an image that people has to be looking at like a million times, the colors are just too bright. And that's why I make my own. Sorry, but I really can't look at those bright colors too long. I just think the contrast is too much and makes the eyes work harder to see it or it could be just me.

07/ I didn't like it when one of the blogger suddenly switched to a different comment system which means I would have make more effort to leave comments which means I wouldn't really leave a comment unless I really, really want to and mostly it's a no. I just wonder why and also, the change is to a format that I really hate. I won't say who or what but it was certainly not to my liking.

08/ I hate to admit - I didn't leave as much comments as I did last year. Even though I did visited almost everyone except the ones with adult contents, I still found I didn't have much to say. I found most of them kind of boring or rather, just things I don't want to read about. I want to be honest so I don't leave comments when I know I don't like what I read and also because I'm sort of lazy.

09/  I think having two category or rather two formats (short fiction and miscellaneous lists) works really well for me. I don't think readers or me want to read all fiction so having fun lists in between is more enjoyable. I didn't have my posts prepared but I did have a word/an idea but I have changed a few posts to something completely different to what I have thought up right on the same day I was to post so it's why the contents varied so much especially the lists. So I think themes don't work for me but having a format really do help a lot.

10/ Even it was a bit stressful and frustrating when I couldn't think of any ideas, I would still do the challenge again.  I seems to be a little more creative doing the challenge than when I'm not doing it.

And if you have done the A-Z Challenge this year, what did you think of it? Did you like it? Or did you wish you haven't done it?

  1. congrats on completing the challenge.

    1. thank you. it really is quite a challenge.

thanks for your visit, have a lovely day.

  2. I myself didn't post the link to my daily posts. Mainly due to lack of time. I am sure there were many others as well.
Even I didn't like logo. It could have been a bit more creative.

    1. I was thinking of not adding to the daily link list, I don't think many people use the list, it just seems like we all have our own list to visit, I know I have a list of blogs that I visit daily and then I visit the ones on the link list.

thanks for your visit, have a lovely day.

  3. Congratulations on completing A-Z 2018! I liked visiting your blog because there was going to be a surprise every day, almost like an advent calendar :-)

    Enjoy your May relaxing!

    1. I did try to make my posts entertaining so people can enjoy their visit. although, I don't think people actually like to participate as much.

thanks for your visit, have a lovely day.

  4. Well...we did it! Another successful year of A2Zing slips over the horizon. Great outline of your A2Z thoughts. A post title to match your post is a great idea. This should be enough info to get someone to visit your site. I'm awful with coming up with an appropriate title. I really need to improve in this area. There is always something(s) you don't like about any challenge, even how others handle things like the sudden commenting system switch but it happens. I try to just go with the flow, taking everything in stride, and enjoy myself. Perhaps the A2Z team will pick upon these things listed here, as well as other bloggers. It's good for us to grow and to become an improved version of ourselves. I certainly will reflect on your thoughts not only for next year event but for my daily posts. BTW, I like your artwork - good job!

    1. it's why they call it a challenge because it really does make you think and even make you try to do better than usual. and like you said, it's good for us to grow and improve.

thanks for your visit, have a lovely day.

  5. Congratulations are in order for completing this A2Z challenge. I looked the list over before the challenge started and I can see why a person would be overwhelmed. I couldn't get any of the links to work, or I guess I should say there WERE no links on the sign-up.

I play in a November daily challenge each year and the host requires us to sign up for it. Again, I don't know why, because no more than about 1/4 of the people who sign up ever participate. After about the first three days, the number of participants dwindle to the point where there are no more than a HANDFUL of participants. You bring up some good points, even for a non-participant.

    1. no links? I don't know what you mean. the links are there but you have to click on it and then a little window shows up and you click on that link and it opens to a new page on your browser. this is why I don't like spreadsheets, the links are there but it's not one click.

thanks for your visit, have a lovely day.

  6. As you probably already know I suck at challenges. (lol) One of the things I really love about you is your honesty, so I totally get that you may not like every post enough to respond.(lol) I follow a lot of blogs, but I also have a lot on my sidebar which truly helps me to remember to visit. My memory sure isn't what it used to be, that's for sure. Happy Sunday! Hugs...RO

    1. I don't do well with challenges either, it's just that sometimes I have this need to finish and that's pretty much that only reason I finish challenges.

this year, the a-z participants seems to have subjects that I'm not interested in like serial killers, frogs, and other things I really don't want to read at all. I guess I lean toward humor and stories and anything that makes me laugh.

thanks for your visit, have a lovely day.

  7. Your post just reminded me that I forgot to publish my own reflections post. I actually thought the serial killers participant - a mystery writer - came up with an interesting idea. Again - we agree to disagree. But I do love a blog that makes me laugh. I absolutely dislike people who sign up for a challenge then post a moneymaking opportunity or something along those lines daily. May your every day be a lovely one :)
