XO (Kisses & Hugs): Favorite Romantic Classics

X is hard and mostly because x words are so boring, it's not easy to make something of them so I ended up with 'XO' - X means kisses and O means hugs - so here's a short list of my favorite romantic classics.

01/ Roman Holiday > link

Kiss Count: a few kisses and hugs

Favorite Quote:
Princess Ann: I have to leave you now. I'm going to that corner there and turn. You must stay in the car and drive away. Promise not to watch me go beyond the corner. Just drive away and leave me as I leave you.
Joe Bradley: All right.
Princess Ann: I don't know how to say goodbye. I can't think of any words.
Joe Bradley: Don't try.

02/ Shop around the corner > link

Kiss Count: one kiss

Favorite Quote:
Klara Novak [In her letter to Alfred] : My heart was trembling as I walked into the post office, and there you were, lying in Box 237. I took you out of your envelope and read you, read you right there, oh, my Dear Friend...

03/ The Lady Eve > link

Kiss Count: a few kisses

Favorite Quote:
Jean/Eve:  Oh, why didn't you take me in your arms that day? Why did you let me go? Why did we have to go through all this nonsense? Don't you know you're the only man I ever loved? Don't you know I couldn't look at another man if I wanted to? Don't you know I waited all my life for you, you big mug?

04/ Nothing Sacred > link

Kiss Count: plenty of kisses coupled with some punches

Favorite Quote:
Wally Cook: You mean to say you stood there and let me beat up a defenseless woman?
Oliver Stone: I did, Mr. Cook.
Wally Cook: Where's your sense of chivalry?
Oliver Stone: My chivalry? Aren't you just a trifle confused, Mr. Cook? You hit her!
Wally Cook: That's entirely different! I love her!

05/ How to steal a million > link

Kiss Count: plenty of kisses and most inside a closet

Favorite Quote:
Nicole Bonnet: You're mad. Utterly mad. I suppose you want to kiss me goodnight?
Simon Dermott: Oh, I don't usually, not on the first acquaintance, but you've been such a good sport... [he kisses her, she resists at first, than yields]

Fun list of films. Do you know that some people thing the X is the hug and O the kiss?

    1. I suppose x can be hugs and o can be kisses, I think x and o are interchangeable.

  6. Cool idea! "Kiss count"
I've never seen "Shop Around the Corner" even though it must have inspired Nora Ephron to do "you've got mail"

    1. 'you've got mail' is a remake of 'shop around the corner', I guess not many people know this.

if you count the kisses in today's movies and compare them to these classics, the contrast would be quite large.

thanks for your visit. have a lovely day.

  8. I love old movies and I also love how in some of them there is hardly any physical contact apart from a few kisses and yet the movie is totally romantic. Thanks for reminding us of some great films Lissa.

    1. that's why I like old movies, I like that there is romance without the need to show skin.
