Favorite Book Quotes

"I've been in love 300 times in my life, all but 5 were with books." — Lee Glickstein
This week's Top Ten Tuesday prompt is 'Favorite Book Quotes' which I took to two meanings: (A) quotes about books or (B) quotes from books. I chose B. These are some of my favorite quotes from books I've read:

01/
"She was a girl who rarely spoke for fear of spontaneously combusting."
― Whichwood by Tahereh Mafi

02/
“I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what."
― To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

03/
"Throwing and smashing things was much perferred to snotty crying."
― Foxheart by Claire Legrand

04/
"I did, as a child, think of New York as a kind of temporary station, and a temporary life where I never wanted anything, or pretended to not want anything, hiding that desire for a new bicycle or a comic book for that elsewhere we would most certainly end up in."
― The Mountain by Paul Yoon, from the story, Milner Field

05/
"I fear now that everyone here is wandering aimlessly in the endless puzzle of a cold and disappointing dream, and that all the certainties and comforts of life have been finally stripped away from them, leaving them lost and directionless, and with the rudiments of existence itself exposed and unbearably raw."
― Gathering the Water by Robert Edric

06/
"I wanted to tell the book thief many things, about beauty and brutality. But what could I tell her about those things that she didn't already know? I wanted to explain that I am constantly overestimating and underestimating the human race – that rarely do I ever simply estimate it. I wanted to ask her how the same thing could be so ugly and so glorious, and its words and stories so damning and brilliant."
― The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

07/
"You see — I've never had any real life", she said. "I've just — breathed."
― The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery

08/
“You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope. Tell me not that I am too late, that such precious feelings are gone for ever. I offer myself to you again with a heart even more your own, than when you almost broke it eight years and a half ago. Dare not say that man forgets sooner than woman, that his love has an earlier death. I have loved none but you. Unjust I may have been, weak and resentful I have been, but never inconstant. You alone have brought me to Bath. For you alone I think and plan. - Have you not seen this? Can you fail to have understood my wishes? - I have not waited even these ten days, could I have read your feelings, as I think you must have penetrated mine. I can hardly write. I am every instant hearing something which overpowers me. You sink your voice, but I can distinguish the tones of that voice, when they would be lost on others. - Too good, too excellent creature! You do us justice indeed. You do believe that there is true attachment and constancy among men. Believe it to be most fervent, most undeviating in
F.W."
― Persuasion by Jane Austen

09/
“I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.”
― Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling

10/
“For a long time now I haven't existed. I'm utterly calm. No one distinguishes me from who I am. I just felt myself breath as if I'd done something new, or done it late. I'm beginning to be conscious of being conscious. Perhaps tomorrow I will wake up to myself and resume the course of my existence. I don't know if that will make me more happy or less. I don't know anything.”
― The Book of Disquiet by Fernando Pessoa

  7. The quote from The Book Thief is a great quote. It reminds me of a quote from the movie Contact, "You're an interesting species. An interesting mix. You're capable of such beautiful dreams, and such horrible nightmares."

  9. I really need to read The Blue Castle. I sort of missed Anne of Avonlea (I don't think the series was ever that popular in Germany) but The Blue Castle sounds so great
