20 Days of Chill: Frame of mind

20 Days of Chill
PJ at A 'lil HooHaa is once again hosting the 20 Days of Chill writing challenge. Today's theme is 'Frame of mind.' I really wanted to post some fiction for today's theme but as I was only reminded of this challenge today, I'll have to try that for later. For now, here's some rambling.

I think it's really hard to get into the right frame of mind when it comes to blogging. There's always distractions and not only that, I often get this urge to close my blog and never blog again but that is only a sometimes thought that gets shuffled away behind many other thoughts.

I can sit and write lots of posts but if I don't like what I wrote or if I don't like the idea, then they become drafts. I have tons of drafts just sitting around collecting cobwebs. Whenever I decided on a post idea, it takes patience and concentration and sometimes motivation from other bloggers to carry them out and posted them after making a ton of editing and rewriting. Even this post you're reading takes hours just to edit because I have one of those shifty minds where I keep changing my thoughts within a few minutes time. So how I managed to post anything, it's a miracle. But I think I'm doing far better now than I did in October when I posted only twice in that whole month. I guess it's why I join these blog/writing challenges. It keeps me blogging and perhaps it also keeps me in the right frame of mind to blog.

hello, it's me...
So what makes a good blog? What makes readers keep coming back? Well, I don't know. I've been blogging a long while and I still don't have any clues of how to succeed in blogging. I like the old saying: if you want to be noticed, you have to shout. I am not a loud person so shouting, talking or writing in exclamation points is against my nature. But I continue to blog because that's my way of shouting without actually shouting. So if you're reading this, I thank you and I thank you again if you decide to visit my blog again.

If you want to join in, the themes is listed here. For more 'frame of mind,' visit A 'lil HooHaa.

  1. I also don't know what makes a good blog. And I figure if I haven't figured it out after 10+ years, I probably never will. So I've decided to blog for myself. And if anyone else finds my words helpful, it's a bonus. But it does make it harder to stay motivated to blog long-term. Some months, I only post new content in response to PJ's challenges. Good thing he keeps organizing them!

  3. Happy new year, Lissa :-)

What makes a good blog in my opinion is authenticity, a writer who manages to get their passion, ideas and thoughts across in a pleasant, easy to read manner. Extra points for a neat (and not too tiny) font and quality pictures. Because great content in a nice package is even better.

I do hate the posts that don't keep what they promise. How to save the world - and then they don't!!

We are in the same boat. Writing challenges provide structure and deadlines which keep us on our toes, right? I do wish I could do more "free blogging". At least I'm trying to integrate some into the challenges.

    Happy writing!

  4. I've been doing this for 8 years and still don't know the path to success. It seems that it is just mostly other bloggers that read blogs (at least in my experience). Then when they up and stop blogging, they stop reading. That has happened a lot over the last several years, so I'm trying to post more, participate in challenges and hopefully attract more visitors. My blog is eclectic so it doesn't have a theme or niche. I am like you, Lissa, I am just thankful when someone is interested enough to read and leave a comment. Happy New Year!

    1. it's true that many bloggers have stopped blogging and stopped reading blogs, at least, it seems to be true to me.

      I wish I have a niche but I don't know. I'm mostly winging it.

thanks for visiting, have a lovely day.

  5. I don't know if there's any real good answer to that other than being yourself. I love your blogs and always enjoy how real you are with your followers...and I LOVE your illustrations!!!

    1. I guess there is no exact answer when it comes to blogging. everyone does it their way and I too, sort of do it my way as well.

thanks for visiting. have a lovely day.

  6. "So how I managed to post anything, it's a miracle."- Indeed then! haha.

Well, I'm glad that as of yet you've not succumbed to the temptation to shut your blog entirely and never blog again, must say! Like Alex above, I love your little part of the world. :)

So, on this challenge, shouldn't P.J.be showing up too to leave a comment or is he one of the people above by any chance?

    1. shutting down blogs is actually very common these days, I value those that still blogs.

yeah, PJ usually visits late, a lot late, that's been my experience. this is the third time I'm participating in these writing challenges.

thanks for visiting. have a lovely day.
